Redmond High Theatre Company’s Latest Production

Redmond High School Theatre Company is proud to announce its upcoming production of Shakespeare’s timeless comedy, Twelfth Night, reimagined within a music festival that is dedicated to the spirit of the 1960s folk revival movement. The production will run from May 1st to May 5th, with evening performances on Wednesday through Saturday at 7:00 pm and matinees on Saturday, May 4th, and Sunday, May 5th, at 2:00 pm.

Directed by Hilda Beltran Wagner, with technical direction from Justin Tilton, this fresh interpretation of Twelfth Night transports audiences to a music festival created by a Woodstock-obsessed producer. Infused with modern language and set against a backdrop of acoustic melodies and familiar folk-rock tunes, the production promises to captivate audiences of all ages with its blend of Shakespearean wit and late 20th century vibes.

“We are thrilled to present Twelfth Night in a whole new light,” said Beltran. “By setting the play in a music festival, we aim to create an immersive experience that celebrates the timelessness of Shakespeare’s work while inviting audiences to connect with the characters and themes in a modern context.”

Twelfth Night tells the tale of mistaken identity, unrequited love, and the antics of a colorful cast of characters, including the “shipwrecked” Viola (in this version, her campervan got a flat on the way into the festival), the lovesick Duke Orsino (the festival’s visionary, Woodstock-obsessed producer), the pompous bureaucrat Malvolio, and the witty servant Maria (here, a body guard with a soft spot for astrology). With its mix of comedy, romance, and music, inspired by Elizabethean melodies and 60’s folk, the comedy enhances Shakespeare’s playful poking at gender norms – which is at the heart of the original manuscript – by also playing with the boundaries of the folk musical genre. The production, adapted by Jon Jory with additional material from Beltran and the RHTC ensemble, promises an unforgettable theatrical experience for theatergoers of all tastes.

Tickets for Twelfth Night are available for purchase online or at the door before each performance. Don’t miss your chance to experience this one-of-a-kind production that brings Shakespeare’s classic comedy to life in a whole new way.
