A house fire in northeast Bend was caused from someone burning weeds nearby with a propane torch. It is the second structure fire this week in Bend caused by debris burning. Bend Fire and Rescue responded to a reported residential structure fire at 2794 NE Hope Drive. The occupants were home at the time and noticed smoke in the garage. The two occupants evacuated and called 911 immediately. Our crews arrived on scene to find fire showing on the outside of the garage. The fire was traveling from the ground to the second story of the outside of the residents. Crews were able to stop the fire with a quick attack and kept the fire from spreading. The fire was extinguished, and the fire was prevented from spreading to nearby neighboring structures. The fire damage ultimately spread to the garage, attic, and 2nd floor walls.
The fire was due to the resident burning weeds with a propane torch. The hot embers spread from the ground to the nearby structure. The estimated damage was $100,000. There was damage to the exterior wall and electrical components of the house.
This is the second structure fire this week in the city of Bend Due to debris burning. Bend Fire and Rescue would like to remind you that debris burning is prohibited within city limits, this includes weed burners. In the city of Bend campfires, warming fires, commercial fire pits and BBQ burning is allowed.
