A suspect wanted in a fatal shooting last week in Redmond has been caught after a standoff with authorities. In the early morning of December 15, the Central Oregon Emergency Response Team (CERT), took Keith Nolen into custody. Nolen was in a travel trailer north of Highway 126 and east of the NE 9th and Antler Ave. intersection.

Nolen refused to surrender to law enforcement. After several hours of attempted negotiation, CERT introduced chemical irritants into the trailer attempting to gain compliance and surrender. Deschutes County Sherrif’s Office K-9 Ronin was deployed, and Mr. Nolen was bit by Ronin. Nolen received medical attention for the dog bite after being taken into custody and he was subsequently lodged at the Deschutes County Jail on charges of 2nd Degree Murder, Unlawful Use of a Weapon, and an outstanding warrant.

The investigation and capture of Mr. Nolen is a credit to the collaborative work of the Major Incident Team, DCSO SWAT, and CERT.

This investigation began on December 10, 2024, at approximately 8:00 a.m., when the Redmond Police Department responded to a 911 dispatch call to the area of East Antler Avenue and SE 11th Street.  The report was of a possible gunshot victim. Officers located a deceased male in the passenger seat of a 2017 Ford F-250 truck. The initial investigation yielded evidence which indicated the man’s death was suspicious.

The deceased male was identified as 26-year-old transient River Feldmiller. The Major Incident Team was deployed and has been working on the case ever since.
