The fan casting for the upcoming Britney Spears biopic, which is being directed by Jon M. Chu, has been going full force ever since the project was announced, and one person on the list says she’d be thrilled to portray the pop icon on film.
Actress Olivia Holt, who stars in the new horror film Heart Eyes, is one of the stars mentioned by fans for the role. Not only is she a former Disney star like Britney, she’s also a singer. She tells Variety, “I would be so honored to play Britney.”
She adds, “I’m just so grateful to be in the running and around so many names and talent who are in the running for it. Just the idea that I am on people’s minds to play something as iconic as this, would be a dream.”
To be clear, Holt isn’t actually “in the running” for the role — no casting decisions have been made. According to Variety, other stars who’ve been mentioned by fans to play Britney include Florence Pugh, Sabrina Carpenter, Millie Bobby Brown, Sydney Sweeney, Addison Rae, Elle Fanning and Tate McRae.
Asked to name her favorite Britney jams, Holt told Variety that her favorite is “I’m Not a Girl, Not Yet a Woman,” but added, “I also love the Circus era. There are so many eras of Britney. How could you choose?”
There’s no timetable yet for the biopic. Chu told Entertainment Tonight in January, “I haven’t really started anything fully yet” and added that he’d “seen all the fan casting … and I always take those into consideration because maybe there’s a good idea out there.” He also said Britney will be “very involved” in the film.
