Charli XCX and Noah Kahan are putting their money with their mouths are in solidarity with Chappell Roan.
To recap, as previously reported, in an op-ed for The Hollywood Reporter, music business insider Jeff Rabhan criticized Chappell for using her Grammy speech to call for record labels to provide salaries and health care for their artists. He called her “wildly misinformed” and wrote, “She should do something about it — rather than just talk at it.” He also said she should “put your money where your mouth is.”
Chappell then called his bluff by announcing that she’d donate $25k to help “struggling dropped artists” and challenged him to do the same.
Now, both Noah and Charli are kicking in money in response to Chappell’s challenge. Noah was first, writing on his Instagram Story, “Hey @chappellroan, I’m going to match your 25K to support artist’s access to healthcare. I’m inspired by you. Happy to help get the ball rolling. Money where mouth is!”
On Sunday, Charli joined the cause. “hey @chappellroan i am going to match your 25k to support artists’ access to healthcare. i saw @noahkahanmusic say that he would do the same and so i thought i’d follow suit,” she wrote on her Instagram Story. “your speech at the grammys was inspiring and thoughtful and from a genuine place of care. happy to help get the ball rolling too. money where mouth is xx.”
In their posts, both artists posted photos of themselves pointing to their mouths and wrote in the word “money” followed by an arrow pointing that way as well.
