On July 4, 2024, at approximately 2:05 pm the Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched to a reported fire in the 5000 block of 10th St. in Terrebonne. Upon arrival deputies observed a large tree and grass on fire near the residence. Deputies contacted and advised nearby neighbors of possible evacuations due to the fire.
Redmond Fire quickly responded and contained the fire. The fire caused damage to the exterior of the house and deck and burned approximately one and a half acres including a neighboring field. While deputies were on scene, they were advised by Redmond Fire personnel that they had contacted a Terrebonne man earlier in the day due to him burning weeds. Although he discontinued burning, the grass later re-ignited causing the uncontrolled burn.
The man was issued a citation in lieu of custody for Reckless Burning. The Redmond Fire Department remained on scene extinguishing the fire.
The Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office would like to remind residents that debris burns are banned and prohibited as of June 1st. Debris burning is described as: burning with burn barrels, weed burners, field, ditch, and open pile burning. It is always recommended to consult with the fire station in your jurisdiction when considering burning.
