Bend Police would like to know who left a box of puppies at a park last weekend. The eight puppies are all alive and being cared for at an emergency veterinary clinic.

According to Bend PD: At approximately 2:51 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 6, Bend Police were dispatched to Hollinshead Park for a report of abandoned dogs.

When officers arrived, they learned that the reporting party was walking near the east side of the park when he heard whimpering behind a garbage can. When the caller investigated, he found a box containing eight very young puppies. The puppies were all alive.

Bend Police contacted the Companion Animal Medical Project, a nonprofit, which took the puppies to an emergency veterinary clinic. The puppies remained at the clinic overnight, where they were bottle fed and placed in incubators to keep them warm.

The eight puppies are estimated to be between one and two weeks old, and appeared clean and well cared for. They all survived and will remain with the Companion Animal Medical Project until they’re old enough to be adopted out through CAMP’s adoption leg, called The Peaches Project.

If anyone has information about who may have left these puppies in Hollinshead Park, please contact nonemergency dispatch at 541-693-6911.

If you are struggling to care for your animals, please know there are a variety of organizations in Bend and throughout Central Oregon that may be able to assist with food, spaying and neutering, medical care or other assistance.
